Combat Negative Energy with Warm, Comforting Notes
Smoke Noir No. 06, a limited edition release, relies heavily on heady vanilla, warm amber and nose-tickling wood smoke. Picture coming home to a wood-burning fireplace after a crisp autumn evening in the woods with red and gold leaves spiraling down around you.
Black candles hold special significance and are often used for protection against negative energy and evil. Our interest in the application of black candles was piqued by Samhain (say “sah-win”), a Gaelic festival traditionally celebrated on October 31 to mark the end of summer. In fact, many of our Halloween traditions can be traced back to Samhain, when ancient partygoers burned bonfires, feasted, lit candles and honored the dead.
The celebration falls roughly halfway between the autumn equinox and winter solstice, when the veil between our world and the ghostly world is at its thinnest and most penetrable. This has long been considered the perfect time to enact cleansing rituals like burning black candles to keep negative energy in the past from contaminating the future. What’s Fall without Pumpkins?!
Our Pumpkin & Spice candle has also been a seasonal customer favorite, but this year, we wanted to turn it up a notch. We’re excited to announce Toasted Cardamom & Pumpkin, which we like to think of as Pumpkin & Spice’s mature older sister. The fragrance is full of comforting pumpkin–like a fresh-baked pie right out of the oven–sweet and sophisticated, but with a spicy kick.
Like all of our candles, Smoke Noir No. 06 and Toasted Cardamom & Pumpkin tumblers and apothecary jars are hand-poured in small batches and made using all-natural biodegradable soy wax, recycled glass and a branded composite natural cork topper.
